If you’ve been following us on Instagram, you might have noticed we’ve been counting down the days to #NUMoveIn2016. To ring in the day that all of our students are back on campus together, we are posting Husky Hacks that every student should know! Missed them? Here’s all 9!
Curry Grand Piano
The giant grand piano on the second floor of CSC is actually open to students! Although it’s normally locked, the operations desk on the third floor will gladly unlock it for you as long as there’s not an event going on in the Ballroom.
Snell ITS Desk
Before you trek all the way home to grab what you forgot, check what Snell has for you to rent! They have a wide selection of technology accessories, from chargers to USB drives to even laptops themselves. All you need to do is check it out with your ID and it’s yours for the next 24 hours.
Did you know that tucked in behind Willis Hall is our very own sand volleyball court? Students are welcome to use it at any time, as long as there’s not an intramural sand volleyball game happening! It’s usually BYOB, but sometimes RA offices will have a volleyball you can borrow.
Club Snell is always packed during midterm and final season. If you’re looking for a quiet place to study, the law library is much less crowded with big tables to spread out. Other great places are empty classrooms (think Behrakis, Shillman or Snell Basement) that are never locked if you get there early enough. The Curry Student Center also has plenty of couches and coffee tables on the first floor.
Living off campus and have too much to carry around all the time? Northeastern actually has brand new lockers you can reserve for the semester that are given out on a first come, first serve basis. They are located in the underground tunnels and can be reserved via MyNEU.
How Far Can You Stretch a Husky Dollar?
If you’re on a weekly meal plan, your Husky ID is automatically preloaded with a certain amount of Husky Dollars. Sure, you can spend it at Rebecca’s or On-The-Go, but there are also many places right off campus. Just look for the “Husky Dollars Accepted Here” sticker.
Pro tip: if the semester is wrapping up and you still have Husky Dollars to spend, cash it all out at the Symphony Whole Foods for a gift card!
Center for Student Involvement Programming Lab
If your organization ever needs a quick place to meet or brainstorm, room 240 in the Curry Student Center is open until 10 pm on most days, with no appointment needed. They have cool whiteboard tables and small meeting rooms designed to foster innovation and creativity.
Sweat it Out
Any Northeastern student knows that Marino is PACKED in the early evenings and it’s even worse during the first month of classes. Try getting your workout in at Squashbusters, located next to the Columbus Parking Garage! Or, you can check out Open Swim and Open Skate hours at the Northeastern Campus Rec website.
A couple of underrated spots around campus have great views of campus and the city. The top of Columbus Garage has the hands down best views of the Boston skyline and is a great place to watch theCurry Roof Deck, accessible on the second floor of CSC, has adirondack and lounge chairs perfect for a mid-afternoon break or some light reading. The courtyard behind Behrakis has tables and benches that make for a great lunch spot.
