Primary Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How many sororities are at Northeastern?

    • Northeastern Panhellenic Council governs 11 chapters: Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Chi Omega, Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Delta Tau, Sigma Kappa, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and Phi Sigma Rho*.

      • *Phi Sigma Rho is an affiliate chapter at Northeastern university, meaning they participate in their own recruitment process. However, they will be present at Open House for you to meet them and see if their process is the right fit for you!

  • When is recruitment?

    • Primary recruitment takes place over two weekends:

    • PNM Orientation - 9/28 (evening)

    • Open House - 9/30 (all day)

    • Philanthropy - 10/1 (all day)

    • Sisterhood - 10/7 (all day)

    • Preference - 10/8 (all day)

    • Bid day - 10/10 (evening)

  • What do I wear to recruitment?

    • Each round of recruitment gets more formal each day, with Open House being the most casual and Preference is the most formal. However, recruitment days can be long and your comfort is most important! Dress however you feel you will be able to best showcase your true self!

  • How long are the rounds?

    • Each round is one day. PNMs will arrive in the morning to meet their Rho Gammas and go over their schedules before starting their parties for the round. The day is complete when you check in with your Rho Gamma after your last party to submit your preferences. The number of parties you have will vary from day to day, however you will have opportunities to relax and make friends in between parties!

  • Does recruitment get in the way of school?

    • Nope! Recruitment is held on the weekend so that PNMs can still attend all of their classes. Academic success is a huge part of being a member of the Panhellenic community, and we want all of our members and PNMs to be successful. Bid day is on a Tuesday evening and we will do our best to accommodate conflicts.

  • What is recruitment like?

    • During primary recruitment you will meet a variety of members from all of our different chapters. You will learn more about their philanthropies, sisterhood, events, and traditions. You also will have the opportunity to share about your interests and experiences, so that you can find your best fit!

  • How do I make a great impression?

    • This may sound cliché, but be yourself! Chapters meet a lot of Potential New Members throughout the day, and you will meet a lot of chapters. The best way to find your best fit while also standing out to the chapters is by being your authentic, true self. It is also important to be kind and respectful to all chapters and chapter members. After all, we are all part of Panhel together!

  • What is PNM orientation?

    • PNM Orientation is a kick off event to primary recruitment, where all Potential New Members will meet their Rho Gammas as well as the Recruitment Team. No chapters will be present at this event, as it is solely to provide PNMs with the information they need to have a great recruitment experience!

  • What if I can’t make it to a round of recruitment?

    • If you are sick or have prior commitments to a day of recruitment, that does not mean you are unable to join one of our chapters. After you register, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to a form where you can submit conflicts. Our AVPR, McKenzie, will reach out with any questions once you submit your conflict!

Primary Recruitment Frequently Used Terms:

  • PNM - Potential New Member, someone going through the primary recruitment process to join a sorority

  • Rho Gamma - Recruitment counselors designated to support and mentor PNMs throughout the recruitment process

  • Chapter - One of our eleven sororities governed by the Northeastern Panhellenic Council

  • Primary Recruitment - Process where Potential New Members visit all of our chapters to find their home on campus!

  • Round - A day of recruitment: Open House, Philanthropy, Sisterhood, and Preference are all rounds of recruitment!

  • Party - Chapter events you attend throughout each round of recruitment.

  • Active - An initiated member of a sorority, who you will be talking to during parties!

  • Bid - An invitation to join a chapter

  • Open House - The first round of recruitment - you will meet all eleven chapters

  • Philanthropy - Charity/cause/organization that a sorority advocates for and raises money for through philanthropic events. During the Philanthropy round, you will learn about what chapters' philanthropies mean to them

  • Sisterhood - The third round of recruitment, where you learn about what sisterhood means to each chapter!

  • Preference - ​​Final round of recruitment! This is a very exciting time as it is so close to bid day, and you will have longer, more meaningful conversations with active members.
