NU Bucket List #61: Harborfest

Be a part of the largest Independence Day festival in the United States at Boston Harborfest! Since 1981, people have celebrated Boston’s rich heritage, maritime history, and its history throughout colonial times and the American revolution at this amazing festival. From fireworks, to music, to harbor cruises, and a variety of other free events, this is truly a 4th of July celebration you won’t want to miss!

Boston Harborfest is a 5 day event, and will take place in a variety of places throughout Boston, including Historic Downtown, the Downtown Waterfront, Faneuil Hall, Charlestown Navy Yard, and Long Wharf. On June 30th, head to Faneuil at 11 am for the Opening Ceremony, where you’ll hear speeches from people such as Mayor Walsh, enjoy music by the 215th Army Band, and have a taste of the Official Boston Harborfest Cake!

The rest of Harborfest includes the colonial festival, Colonialfest!, on July 1st, a Chowderfest on July 2nd, performances from the Boston Pops on July 3rd, all culminating in the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Charles River on July 4th! On top of all these one day events, you can enjoy daily events such as the Red, White, and Blue Scavenger hunt, walking tours along the Freedom Trail, and historical reenactments throughout Boston.

Boston Harborfest is a 4th of July celebration like no other. If you can’t make it to the 2017 festival, not to worry. This yearly event is guaranteed to be amazing no matter when you go! For a complete Boston Harborfest 2017 schedule, click here.
