NU Bucket List #85: Martin Luther King Tribute Events
The new year is here and NU Bucket List is back! What better way to kick off the start of the Spring semester than with a day off to remember one of the most impactful leaders in American history, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? Read on below to find out about how you can celebrate Dr. King this year!
January 15th: MLK Day Open House at MFA
From 10am-5pm you can go to the MFA for free to celebrate Dr. King and his legacy. At 1pm in the Shapiro Family Courtyard join Mayor Walsh as he commemorates Dr. King and adds the first colors to a unique mural created by teens from Artists For Humanity. You can also view artwork celebrating Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement, enjoy music from a variety of performers all day long, and of course the amazing exhibits the MFA always has to offer!
January 16th: A Tribute to the Dream: Expressions of Race and Identity in Society
Head to the 17th floor of East Village at noon for Northeastern’s annual celebration of Dr. King, “A Tribute to the Dream: Expressions of Race and Identity in Society”. Enjoy free lunch, musical performances by Northeastern students, and a panel discussion on race and society. The panel will be moderated by former White House correspondent and current Northeastern journalism professor Dan Lothian. The panel will include Director of Northeastern’s School of Journalism Jonathan Kaufman, Boston Globe reporter Akilah Johnson, and writer Clint Smith.
