NU Bucket List #90: Chinese New Year Celebration

The Lunar New Year is almost here! Want to know how to celebrate the start of the year of the Dog? Read on to find out about all the best Chinese New Year celebrations happening around Boston this February!

February 17th: Franklin Park Zoo’s Chinese New Year

From 10:30am-2:00pm head to the Franklin Park Zoo for a Chinese New Year celebration! Enjoy a special lion dance performance and learn about all the Franklin Park animals that are included in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. Representatives from Quincy Asian Resources will be in the decorated tropical forest section of the zoo for educational activities and a photo op!

February 25th: Boston Chinese New Year Parade

The Boston Chinese New Year Parade is back! From 10am-5pm, watch traditional lion dancers parade through the beautifully decorated Chinatown neighborhood! After these amazing performances, you can visit one of Chinatown’s Cultural Villages in the China Trade Building or on 90 Tyler Street for special arts and crafts.

February 25th: Lunar New Year Celebration at the Pao Art Center

Immerse yourself in Chinese art at the Pao Art Center in Chinatown! From 11:00am-3:00pm you can enjoy free activities from lantern making to Chines macrame. This event is free, but for $30 you can purchase a ticket to a cooking class on how to make traditional Chinese dumplings! Tickets can be purchased here.
