NU Bucket List #96: The Esplanade

The Spring weather has finally started to arrive! What better way to enjoy the sunshine than by the Charles in The Esplanade! The Esplanade is 3 miles of greenland stretching across the Charles on the Boston side. From performances in the Hatch Shell to watching sailboats leave from the docks, there’s so much to enjoy in The Esplanade!

The Hatch Shell is one of Boston’s most popular locations for large outdoor performances and open air events! Performers like the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Boston Pops can be found in the Hatch Shell throughout the summer for free. If you’re here during Summer 2, be sure to head out to The Hatch Shell to check out the Boston Pops annual 4th of July celebratory performance and fireworks show over the river!Love sailing? The Esplanade is the place for you! 5 floating docks along the park allow you to get up close and personal with the Charles and its many sailboats. In the fall, The Esplanade is the perfect place to watch the iconic Charles Regatta! If you want to learn how to sail yourself, head to Community Boating Inc for lessons from beginner to advanced sailors from April 1-October 31st.

The Esplanade is a great place for you to get in some exercise! The Exercise course, located between the Mass Ave and BU bridges, provides free basic outdoor gym equipment to the public. At the Charlesbank Park you can find 4 lighted tennis courts available on a first come first serve basis. All summer long you can also enjoy free fitness classes 3 days a week ranging from Zumba to Yoga to Bootcamp!

Every week, we post one more thing you MUST do before you graduate Northeastern. Tag us in/tweet us a picture of you doing our thing of the week, and you could get featured on our twitter or instagram, or win some pretty awesome prizes (including your favorite Husky swag)! #NUbucketlist
